MDL209   Deutschland und Oesterreich heute   (20 credits)

Description

The course, taught in German, provides an overview of present-day Germany and Austria, examining three core areas in particular: politics; culture; and mass media (radio, television, print, and social media). The focus is on the question how these three areas interrelate. On the basis of selected texts and video clips as well as a variety of Internet sources, the course critically explores such issues as politics and the rise of populist / right-wing extremist parties and movements, immigration policy, and national identity.
